Wings cannot provide lift when the craft is in a vertical position (the shuttle only appears to be upside down). The ascent is powered solely by the thrust rockets. The wings are used just for the descent in Earth's atmosphere.

I think the robot's emotions will go down well with young children Harvestbird. Children spend an awful lot of time giving emotions to inanimate objects when at play, and respond well to emotive "things" like Thomas the Tank Engine etc.

Jack, you obviously need more motors and wires to pull your rubber skin from the back (I hope RSJS doesn't see this).

Six is way more emotions than I express in my class - or am even capable of expressing.

Where is it's "rage" function?

(And on that: the word-verification in order for me to post this comment is "arant" - maybe technology does understand me...)

I would say there are two elements to this: one is the age of the students (and whether they're in compulsory or non-compulsory education), and the other is the teaching culture of the robot concerned.

The approval or disapproval of the teacher is a much more potent motivating force at say primary level than later, but I'd infer it's also more acceptable to use it explicitly in some cultures than in others.

Having said that, I do wonder about the assumption that students (even children) will automatically accept such affective qualities from a robot, or even engage with it in the same way. Wouldn't primary-age children be more likely to want to play with and/or destroy the robot?

Having said that, I certainly experience disgust while I'm teaching, but it's primarily when encountering students for whom freedom to study=freedom from bathing. However, my most vehement in-class expression of it would be restricted to a slow blink and perhaps opening a window.
